Many of us struggle to know God's calling for our lives. It is a dilemma that many of us confront, perhaps for the first time, during our senior year in college. What does God want me to do with my life? Should I enter a secular job and try to reach the lost? Should I go into a ministry and help expand the Kingdom? How does God want me to grow in the next year?
Question: What if you could answer all of these questions at once?
Our staff members here at Advent have all been called by God to minister to a special group of people. We are in the unique position of being a Christian agency, in the midst of a secular environment, serving predominantly non-Christian people. This unique environment creates enormous opportunity for those who take seriously the calling of God for their life. Listen to the reflections of a few of our staff members . . .
"God has changed my life here at Advent. Advent
has been a perfect fit for God's plan in my life. Through most of my Christian
walk I have struggled to follow Christ in my own power. Here at Advent, I
have learned to surrender on my knees and accept God's grace. Through this
grace, God continues to change me and use me in sharing His love and compassion
with those in need."
-Chad, Resident Counselor.
"I came to Advent last June with the intention
of only staying for 2 months as part of the internship program. However, throughout
those 2 months God was making it clear to me that He wanted to do some things
in my life and that Advent was that place, that fire where He would refine
me. It was the scariest and most breaking experience just to make a one year
commitment, but yielding to God's will for me in that has proved to be the
most rewarding, most life-changing experience I have yet to have."
-Cara, Resident Counselor
"My experience at Advent has taken me through a full-circle of experiences
and emotions. In the last 10 months I have rejoiced through joy-filled times
and stumbled through heart-wrenching times. But, through every experience,
I have grown a little wiser, a little stronger, and a lot more aware of God's
strength and peace that surpasses all understanding. This is, without question,
a season of my life I wouldn't trade for anything."
-Robin, Resident Counselor.
Our staff consists of a group of wonderful people who are growing in God and learning the true meaning of following Christ through service.
I have often heard our Executive Director, Mark Miller, say, "This job could be the hardest job that you will ever love." I think he is right. If you sense God calling you, we would like to hear from you
